We are completely self-funded, although we have now been the recipient of two Cheltenham Community Pride grants. We run two major events a year - our Summer Festival and a Christmas Craft Fair - together with a number of smaller fundraisers. And we have had the help of more than 85 local sponsors. You can see our current list of sponsors here. We are enormously grateful for their support.
As our running costs, such as printing and insurance, have slowly been increasing we have just started a new monthly cash draw (that you can read about above) so that we do not have to worry about covering our basic overheads.
We have had masses of media coverage since we started and you can see the list here.
Cheltenham Connect is a highly successful local community initiative that was founded in 2009 and that has gone on to be one of the fastest growing and most active initiatives in Cheltenham. It was set up with the aim of strengthening and empowering the residential and trading community of South Cheltenham (which in Cheltenham Connect terms is Leckhampton, Naunton Park, The Bath Road (south), The Suffolks, Tivoli and The Park) and anyone living or trading in the area can become a member.
Since the time of our launch we have been doing a lot! From ‘Buy Local’ campaigns and craft fairs, to local business networking, history projects, low carbon initiatives, garden and crop shares, lunches, workshops and film showings there is always something going on. You can see a list of our 2009-2011 activities here.
We have four main action groups that you can sign up to below and each of these runs its own activities. We really care about the environment so have now also developed our own Green Charter. We produce a regular newsletter that you can sign up to here and you can also access our newsletter archive.
We have also developed two other websites for key projects and you can see these in the left-hand side panel and on www.cheltenhamsouthtown.org (our local history project) and www.connectmystreet.org (our 'greening the Bath Road' project.
COME AND JOIN US!
What it is really about is showing how much we all care about the area and that people can achieve amazing things by getting together. We work hard but have a lot of fun so come and help us grow!
NEW HEALTH AND WELLBEING GROUP
A Heath and Wellbeing group is now also being developed and we welcome anyone who would like to be involved. Please click on the group link below to get involved.

Parking Update
The drop-in exhibition at Bethesda Church on 18 November was very well attended with many residents visiting to see the proposals for a permit parking scheme in the Suffolks area and for new safety crossings and short-stay parking on Bath Road. Since then, the Focus Group which advises the County Council on these schemes, and on which SPJARA is represented, has met and discussed the reactions to the two schemes. The majority of responses to the Suffolks scheme were in favour, subject in some cases to proposals for detailed changes to the scheme. After detailed discussion, the Focus Group advised the officials to go ahead with the next formal stage of consultation on the scheme, with no change to the proposed boundary but some flexing of the proposed parking regime in certain streets. The formal consultation process is likely to start in late January.
On the Bath Road proposals, the general reaction was favourable, and these too will be subject to formal consultation in the New Year. Details of the schemes, and a summary of the responses to the consultation, can be found on the website http://www.gloucestershire.
